Renting a Land Cruiser and driving around Central Mongolia has been our favourite adventure in this incredible country. Being able to explore remote areas and camping anywhere we like has unveiled a side of this country that we have fallen in love with. Central Mongolia is covered with steppe, livestock, and not much else, and being out here in an off-roading vehicle means we can explore it all! Being self-contained in our rented Land Cruiser brings a sense of freedom we rarely get while traveling.

This video starts where part 1 left off (check out part 1 here if you missed it: https://youtu.be/mD_VVX04nds) . After camping near the Mini Gobi, we wake up to the sight of camels approaching our camping area and spending the morning eating their breakfast with us. Combined with the goats, sheep, horses, and cows that we see all from our rooftop tent, this is the most magical morning of our lives. It doesn't get any better than watching 2-humped camels do breakfast yoga from the comfort of our tent.

We finally visit the Mini Gobi Sand Dunes that we parked so close to last night. These dunes are nothing compared to the sand dunes of the Gobi Desert, but they're still pretty special. Afterwards, we make our way to the Ancient capital city of Mongolia; Karakorum. Karakorum was once a huge, prominent city along the Spice Route, but today it takes a bit of imagination to "see." There is a gorgeous Buddhist temple on site that survived the USSR though!

Another stunning drive later (just be cautious of the sheep), and we arrive to Ogii Lake which is our campsite for the night. Mico took a swim with some horse poop and we had the chance to enjoy a new side of Mongolia - one with water! We have seen so little water since arriving in Mongolia that it was almost weird to camp beside Ogii Lake. We had a delicious dinner and watched the sunset with some vey strong Mongolian vodka to keep us company.

On the third day of our trip, we were awoken again by animals right outside our rooftop tent. I think we discovered why people camp in rooftop tents here and not on the ground! The drive out of Ogii Lake was more eventful than we expected, and the views did not disappoint as we began the long drive back to Ulaanbaatar. For lunch we got to check out our first Mongolian truck stop, which was so nice! We had Mongolian food for lunch and then endured a little more off-roading before arriving back in the capital city just as a huge wind storm passed through. Listen closely to the end of the video and you can hear a huge pane of glass shattering!

In our next video, we are off to South Korea to explore Seoul! We hope you've loved our Mongolia series and will join us in Seoul to check out a new country!
